چکیده
Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of different loads on tremor around 10 Hz during fatiguing contractions. Methods: Eighteen healthy volunteers performed sustained isometric knee extensions at 30%, 50% and 70% maximum voluntary contraction (MVC). During the fatiguing contractions, mechanical recordings were made with a high-resolution force sensor. Tremorpower was calculated for the 6±20 Hz frequency window as a function of time normalized to endurance time. Results: Initial tremor power was different between the high and low load tasks. Changes of tremor with contraction time differed between the three tasks, in that tremor of the 30% MVC contraction showed the least decrease throughout the sustained contraction, whilst that of the 50% and 70% MVC showed progressively higher decreases. At failure, all 3 contractions merged to the same tremor level. Conclusion: Load-dependent, fatigue-related 6±20 Hz tremor changes during sustained submaximum voluntary contractions seem mainly the consequence of recruitment of new units and fatigue-related properties of the high threshold motor units of muscles. q 2000 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. About two-thirds of epilepsy patients who learn to control their slow cortical potential shifts (SCP) reduce their seizure rate, but the remaining third does not demonstrate clinical improvement. In the present study, this ®nding was replicated in a group of 27 patients with focal epilepsy. We found that patients who consistently produced larger negative SCP in all conditions during the ®rst ph...

Objective: High frequency oscillations (HFOs) evoked by posterior tibial nerve stimulation were recorded using magnetoencephalography (MEG). Time±frequency domain multiple signal classi®cation (TF-MUSIC) algorithm was applied, and the usefulness of this method was demonstrated. Methods: Ten normal subjects were studied. To localize sources for the HFOs of those somatosensory evoked ®elds, we ap...

Objective: A system for electrode placement is described. It is designed for studies on topography and source analysis of spontaneous and evoked EEG activity. Method: The proposed system is based on the extended International 10±20 system which contains 74 electrodes, and extends this system up to 345 electrode locations. Results: The positioning and nomenclature of the electrode system is desc...

Objectives: By using the Wavelet Transform, a time frequency representation with nearly optimal resolution, we studied responses to stimulation in the `alpha' range (10 Hz). Methods: Visual evoked responses of 10 healthy subjects were studied with 3 different stimulus types (no-task VEP, non-target and target stimulus). Results: Upon all the stimulus types, event-related responses in the 10 Hz ...
